What was it like to be the 2nd worst in sketching at NID?

▪️ I had to rely only on the aptitude section to crack the NID DAT exam, making preparation slightly easy.

▪️ (However, I still want to learn drawing, but it’s low on my priority list.)

▪️ We had drawing modules in Sem — 1.
I cared about marks in Sem — 1.
That didn’t end up well 🥲

▪️ But I was glad I wasn’t the worst (IMO), there was one person who drew stick figures 🙏

▪️ With time I realised, even though I wasn’t good at drawing, I was still decent at visual communication and that’s what I doubled down on!

▪️ I was super fascinated by the work of information design students. I would look at their work and wonder how would I have done it without illustrations.

▪️ Since I wasn’t capable of making good illustrations, I spent unhealthy hours studying layouts with Type and Shapes to make my compositions look good.

▪️ My work is still not as good as the inspirations I look up to but one thing I can say for sure now is I am not as insecure as the 2nd worst in the class.

Thank you. I write about Slow Thinking, UX and Lifestyle Design.
